Acetylene and Oxygen Cutting Torch - OSHA says that security is part of Oxyfuel Welding Safety
Two Oxyfuel Safety Horror Stories - and one of them could have been a tragedy.
Story # 1
A worker was returning from a lunch break and prepares to complete its task of cutting a joint u truck with an acetylene torch oxygen.
He lit the acetylene valve and then proceeded to open the oxygen cylinder valve. The regulator of oxygen exploded then the shirt saturated with oxygen. Shirt on and burn him severely on his torso. The cause of the accident was determined by a regulator or RBO Burnout caused by the worker does not bleed pressure when he left for lunch.
Story # 2
A worker was preparing to celebrate the July 4, filling latex gloves with a mixture of oxygen and acetylene. His plan was to be the hit of the neighborhood with the power of these bombs latex glove later that night. While he was carrying a cargo of explosives latex balloons, a static spark from the latex rubbing together made them explode. A chest burned, permanent hearing loss, kidney stones dislodged and was not even aware they were that day the price for stupidity. If they had kindled in the trunk of his Camaro, which is where he planned to put them, he probably would not survive.
Oxyfuel equipment is dangerous.
Story # 1 is understandable but entirely preventable through known security principles oxyfuel
Story # 2 is the natural selection at work. There are no excuses. But sometimes I see YouTube videos of people filling balloons with oxygen and acetylene, and I think to myself "Holy Crap, they are all going to die!"...
